GeekStream Online News: January 7th 2008: The much anticipated Consumer Electronics Show stared today from Las Vegas, NV. The exhibition features vendors from all different technology markets such as Microsoft, LG, Panasonic, Sony, and many many more showing their latest innovations and brand new products. We will be bringing you all the news we can from the show this week. Keep checking back for the latest updates and pictures. January1st 2008: Happy New Year to everyone. Another year brings a whole other year to bring you a better and better Geekstream. This year we have some major plans for this site including yet another overhaul, as you might have noticed, and we will be adding some more multimedia content in the next few months. May this year bring lots of new technology that we can all get our hands on. October 31st: Happy Halloween everyone. Well don't bugger off to far.. Arrgh.. Just go to mi forums and post somethin' ye bildge rats!. September 5th: During an Apple news conference today Apple released an update to its iPod line up. A color change for the iPod Shuffle, New iPod nanos featuring video support a wider screen and shorter body, A renaming of the iPod to iPod Classic, along with that they have raised the capacity of the iPod Classic to 80GB and 160GB Both version now even thinner than previous models. Also the iPod classic now sports a metallic finish. But the real news comes in the new iPod Touch. Apple has taken the touch screen, cover flow and the rotate features of the iPhone and put them into the iPod. On top of that Apple has also added on a Wi-fi wireless networking feature. Now iPod Touch users can purchases songs right from their iPods without the need to synch to their computers first. August 28th: New to Geekstream, The Official Geekstream RSS News Feed. August 24th: The team at iPhoneSimfree.com have unlocked Apple's iPhone so it can be used with other providers aside from AT&T. The software, which is not available for download yet, will unlock the iPhone and has been tested with a T-Mobile sim Card. Read the full story at Engadget. June 11th: San Francisco, CA - Apple Hosts its annual World Wide Developers Conference. Along with vendors and developers from every major publisher, the conference gives all developers attending a chance to brush up on their skill sets, brainstorm with other programers, and share their applications and ideas. The conference is kicked off by a Keynote address by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Within the address Jobs unveiled 10 new features of its upcoming operating system, Leopard. (Read more here) |
Geekstream converage of the 2008 International CES, Las Vegas NV
The much anticipated Consumer Electronics Show stared today from Las Vegas, NV. The exhibition features vendors from all different technology markets such as Microsoft, LG, Panasonic, Sony, and many many more showing their latest innovations and brand new products. January 9th: Also announced shown at CES this year is some more details on the emerging USB 3 spec. Show here are some diagrams of the connector and the socket for the new technology which is going to be under review this month. The USB 3 socket is going to be backwards compatible with USB 1 and 2 connections, while the extra pins for the USB 3 connections are recessed into the socket.
The USB 3 standard is slated to have a 4.7 Gb/s through put, roughly 10 times that of the current USB 2.0 480 Mb/s. The final approval for USB 3 is expected to be completed sometime Mid '08 and showing on new motherboard shortly there after. January 7th: Kingston Technology unveiled its latest USB flash drive the Data Traveler 400. The Data Traveler 400 promises to keep a users documents and data synchronized between multiple PCs. The flash drive features sizes from 2GB up to 8GB with a transfer read of 20 MB/s and write of 10 MB/s. On

windows operating systems the drive can synchronize data with its MigoSynch software that will also provide password security for sensitive data. MigoSynch also provides a Universal Mail Format that lets the user access his or her own email on a guest PC regardless of the email application. MigoSynch is a PC only application and therefore these features are not supported on a Mac OSX Operating system.
Intel unveiled 16 new processors utilizing their 45nm manufacturing process. These new processors under the new process will be faster, cooler and more energy efficient. The 12 of the new processors are for desktop and laptop use while 4 are geared for the server market. These processors introduce a new instruction set (SSE4) that will aid in the decoding and translation of HD data. Also with this announcement Intel also will be backing smaller more powerful small form factor computers. Keeping in tune with the industry’s shift to more eco-friendly products Intel also announced these are the most eco-friendly processor they have produced and will even be shipping in sleeker environment friendly packaging.
